Gurpurab: The word Gurpurab is made of two words 'Guru' + 'Purab' (derived from Parv in Hindi), so the literal meaning of the word Gurpurab is 'festival/day associated with Guru'. The sikh festivals or important days associated with Sikh gurus are called as 'Gurpurab'.

Baba Deep Singh Ji Birthday 2023

Baba Deep Singh ji, born in 1682, was the first head of Misl Shaheedan. He is remembered for his sacrifice and devotion to the teachings of the Sikh Gurus. He sacrificed his life while fighting Afgan army in Amritsar to defend Shri Harmandir Sahib.
Baba Deep Singh ji's birthday in 2023 is coming on Friday, January 27, 2023. The day is celebrated by the Sikhs throughout the world. The day is celebrated with much enthusiasm and devotion at Gurudwara Shaheedan Sahib in Amritsar, which is dedicated to Baba Deep Singh ji.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gurpurab 2023

Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji was the founder of the sikh religion, who set up a unique spiritual, social and political platform based on equality, fraternal love, goodness and virtue. The parkash diwas or birthday gurpurab of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji is celebrated on the puranmashi of Kattak month. In the year 2023, the date of Guru Nanak Dev ji Gurpurab is Monday, November 27, 2023 and we are going to celebrate 554th birth anniversary of Guru ji.

Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji was born in the year 1469 at Rai Bhoi di Talwandi (now in Pakistan) and Gurudwara Nankana Sahib is situated at this place. On the occassion of birthday gurpurab of Guru Nanak Dev ji, there is a gazetted holiday by central govt, public holiday in Punjab and many other states of India.
This Gurpurab is celebrated with much enthusiasm and religious fervour at Shri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), Amritsar. Sikh sangat from across the world come to Amritsar to take part in the gurpurab celebrations with respect and devotion. Devotees take a dip in the holy sarovar (pool) located inside the premises of Shri Harmandir Sahib, offer prayers and seek blessings of Guru ji on the occasion of birthday gurpurab of Guru Nanak Dev ji.

Guru Arjan Dev ji Shaheedi Diwas 2023

Guru Arjan Dev ji was the first martyr of sikh faith, who was executed on the orders of mughal emperor Jahangir. Many people were following the teachings of Guru Arjan Dev ji and mughal rulers were afraid at the growth of sikh religion. So the emperor Jahangir tried to convert Guru ji to Islam and he was tortured to death when refused to convert to islamic faith.
According to desi calendar, the shaheedi gurpurab of Guru Arjan Dev ji is observed on Jeth Sudi 4. So according to this, the date of Guru Arjan Dev Ji Shaheedi Diwas in 2023 is Tuesday, 23rd May 2023.
This Gurpurab is observed in the peak summer season and sikhs organize 'Chabeel' (free service of cold & sweetened water) at many places in the memory of guru ji.
