Education Minister of Punjab

Om Parkash Soni (O P Soni), a Congress MLA from Amritsar Central assembly consituency, is the current education minister of Punjab. He was given the charge of education department in April 2018. He is a senior leader of Congress party and elected as MLA for 5th time. His qualification is Higher Secondary.
When Congress party came into power in the state in March 2017, Smt. Aruna Chaudhary became the Education Minister of Punjab. But she remained education minister for just over an year and this department was handed over to OP Soni.
Punjab Education Minister - OP Soni He is an MLA from Amritsar Central constituency in Amritsar district. In the current elections held in March 2017, she won the elections from Amritsar Central constituency with a margin of 21,116 votes and Tarun Chugh of BJP was the trailing candidate. He has represented the same constituency as MLA in 2012 also. Being a 5th time MLA, he is a senior leader and hence inducted as a minister in the current govt although his educational qualification is not much suitable for this post.

Om Parkash Soni was born on July 3, 1957 at Bhilowal Pakka (Dist. Amritsar) and his age is 61 years. He is married to Smt. Suman Soni and currently resides at Rani Ka Bagh, Amritsar. His contact number is 9814418866 and email id is officeopsoni@gmail.com. He passed the Higher Secondary exam from Higher Secondary School, Lopoke in year 1974.
There are four directorates which function under the Punjab Education Department. These directorates are:
  1. Directorate of Public Instruction (Colleges)
  2. Directorate of Secondary Education
  3. Directorate of Primary Education
  4. Directorate of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT)

  • Technical Education and Industrial Training - Charanjit Singh Channi is the minister of this department. He is associated with Congress party and currenty represents the Chamkaur Sahib constituency in Ropar district.

Education Minister of India

In India, the education department comes under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) and there are two main departments under it - Department of School Education and Literacy, Department of Higher Education. Prakash Javadekar, a BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member from Madhya Pradesh, is the minister of this department i.e. Minister of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
