Punjab, a small state in the northwest part of India, is one of the prosperous states of the country. According to the economic survey 2018-2019, the GDP of Punjab is 5.18 lakh crore. This is the advance estimate of total gross state domestic product of Punjab during the financial year 2018-2019.

The gross domestic product or
GDP of Punjab is 5.18 lakh crore (5,18,291 crore or 5182 billion) at current prices for the year 2018-19. At the constant prices of year 2011-12, the GSDP of Punjab for 2018-19 is 3.98 lakh crore and the annual growth rate of GSDP for this year is 5.93%.
As per advance estimate for the financial year 2018-2019, the per capita net state domestic product or per capita income of Punjab is Rs. 1,53,061 (1.53 lakh) and it was 1,41,552 for the year 2017-2018.

NOTE: The correct term is Gross State Domestic Product or GSDP, not GDP. But as the common people mostly use the word GDP, so we are using the same term for the ease of understanding of common man.
Sector Wise GDP of Punjab
The gross state domestic product is classified into three main categories - primary, secondary and tertiary. The primary sector includes agriculture, livestock, forestry & logging, fishing, mining and quarrying. The contribution of this sector is 29.57 percent.
The contribution of secondary sector is 24.33% and it includes manufacturing, electricity, gas, water supply & other utility services and construction.
The tertiary sector mainly includes services and these are categorized as trade, hotels & restaurants, transport, storage & communication services, financial services, real estate, public administration and other services. The contribution of this sector is 46.10%.
In Punjab, agriculture sector is the biggest employer, which employs around 39% workers of the state according to 2011 census. But the contribution of this sector to the gross state domestic product is only 16.92%.

Per Capita Income of Punjab
The
per capita income of Punjab is Rs. 1,53,061 according to the figures at current prices for the year 2018-2019. In the previous year 2017-18, the per capita income in Punjab was 1,41,552.

The per capita income of Punjab is satisfactory when compared with the per capita income of India, which is 1.15 lakhs (2017-18).
