Dasmi 2025

 The literal meaning of the word Dasmi is 10th day. According to the desi calendar, the tenth day from Masya or Puranmashi is called as Dasmi (also spelled as Dashmi, Dasvi or Dashami).
The tenth day from Masya is known as 'Sudi Dasmi' (ਸੁਦੀ ਦਸਮੀ) and the tenth day from Puranmashi is known as 'Vadi Dasmi' (ਵਦੀ ਦਸਮੀ). The Dasmi, which is generally observed/celebrated in temples and gurudwaras, is the tenth day from Masya i.e. Sudi Dasmi. So the Dasmi dates given on this page are according to Sudi Dasmi (Dashmi).
Can there be two Dashmi dates in a month? According to english calendar which most of us use in our day to day life, there are generally 30 or 31 days in a month. But the Dashmi date is based upon the movement of moon around the earth, which takes little more than 29 days to complete one cycle around earth. So the Dashmi date comes after almost 29 days. Due to this, sometimes there are two dasmi dates in an english month - once in the beginning of the month and then again during the last few days of the month. For example, dasmi will come twice in November 2025.
