As of March 2019, Gurjit Singh Aujla of Congress is the current MP of Amritsar lok sabha seat. He won from this seat during the bypoll held in March 2017, by a margin of 1,99,189 votes from its nearest opponent Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina of the BJP.
Captain Amarinder Singh of Congress won from this constituency during the previous general elections held in April-May 2014 (Amarinder Singh later resigned from this seat during the Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections in 2017 and he is now the Chief Minister of Punjab). He got total 482876 votes and won by a margin of 102770 votes. Arun Jaitley of BJP was at the second place and got 380106 votes. In Amritsar lok sabha constituency, the voting for general elections 2014 was held on 30 April, 2014. The constituency recorded a voting percentage of 70%. The couting of votes was done on 16 May 2014 and the results were announced on the same day.
