The next lok sabha elections in India will be held in April-May 2019 and these elections will be to elect the 17th Lok Sabha of India.
All the political parties as well as common people are eagerly awaiting the dates of next general elections and the wait is over now.
The Election Commission of India held a press conference today (10 March 2019) at 5pm and announced the dates of next general elections.
The polling will be held in 7 phases, with first phase of polling on 11th April and last phase of polling on 19th May. The counting for all the seats will start on 23rd May and the results will be announced on the same day.
The polling for all 13 lok sabha seats in Punjab will be held in last phase on May 19, 2019.
The polling in Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh will also be on 19 May 2019, along with Punjab.
The state of Haryana will go to polls on May 12, 2019.

- There are total 13 lok sabha seats in Punjab and elected representative from each seat is called as MP or Member of Parliament.
- In Punjab, each lok sabha constituency has 9 assembly constituencies (vidhan sabha seats) in it and there are total 117 seats in Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
- The general elections in India for lok sabha seats are held after every 5 years and last elections were held in 2014. The next elections are due in April-May 2019.

MP from Amritsar: Gurjit Singh Aujla of Congress is the MP from Amritsar lok saha seat. He won from this seat during the bypoll held in March 2017, by a margin of 1,99,189 votes from its nearest opponent Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina of the BJP.
In 2014 general elections, Captain Amarinder Singh of Congress became MP from Amritsar lok saha seat. He won by a margin of 102770 votes and Arun Jaitley of BJP was the trailing candidate. It is interesting to note that Arun Jaitley is the current finance minister of India.
Amarinder Singh later resigned from this seat during the Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections in 2017 and he is now the Chief Minister of Punjab.
MP from Anandpur Sahib: Prem Singh Chandumajra of SAD is elected as lok sabha member from Anandpur Sahib constituency. He won by a margin of 23697 votes. Ambika Soni of Congress was at the second place and got 323697 votes.
MP from Bathinda: Harsimrat Kaur Badal of SAD has won from Bathinda lok sabha seat. She got total 514727 votes and won by a margin of 19395 votes. Manpreet Singh Badal of Congress was the trailing candiate. Now she is a cabinet minister for Food Processing Industries ministry in the government of India.
MP from Faridkot: Prof. Sadhu Singh of AAP is elected as MP from Faridkot lok sabha seat. He won by a margin of 172516 votes. Paramjit Kaur Gulshan of SAD was at the second place.
MP from Fatehgarh Sahib: Harinder Singh Khalsa of AAP is MP from Fatehgarh Sahib. He won by a margin of 54144 votes. Sadhu Singh Dharamsot of Congress was at the second place and Kulwant Singh of SAD was at the third position.
MP from Sangrur: Bhagwant Mann of AAP is MP from Sangrur. He got total 533237 votes and won by a margin of 211721 votes. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa of SAD was at the second place and got 321516 votes.
MP from Khadoor Sahib: Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, a senior leader of SAD, is MP from Khadoor Sahib. He won by a margin of 100569 votes and Harminder Singh Gill of Congress was the trailing candidate.
MP from Hoshiarpur: Vijay Sampla of BJP has won from Hoshiarpur. He got total 346643 votes and won by a margin of 13582 votes. Mohinder Singh Kaypee of Congress was at the second place and got 333061 votes.
He is a Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
MP from Ludhiana: Ravneet Singh Bittu of Congress is MP from Ludhiana lok sabha constituency. He got total 300459 votes and won by a margin of 19598 votes. Harvinder Singh Phoolka of AAP was at the second place and got 280750 votes. Manpreet Singh Ayali of Shiromani Akali Dal was at third position with 256590 votes.
MP from Jalandhar: Santokh Singh Chaudhary of Congress is member of parliament from Jalandhar lok sabha seat. He got total 380479 votes and won by a margin of 70981 votes. Pawan Kumar Tinu of SAD was at the second place and got 309498 votes.
MP from Gurdaspur: Sunil Jakhar of Congress is the current MP from Gurdaspur seat, who won this seat during the bypoll held in October 2017. He won by a margin of 1,90,000 votes and Swaran Salaria of BJP was the trailing candidate.
In 2014 general elections, Vinod Khanna of BJP won from Gurdaspur. He got total 347394 votes and won by a margin of 136065 votes. Partap Singh Bajwa of Congress was at the second place and got 323697 votes. In April 2017, Vinod Khanna died of Cancer at the age of 70 years and hence this seat got vaccant.
MP from Firozpur: Sher Singh Ghubaya of SAD is MP from Firozpur. He won by a margin of 31420 votes. Sunil Jakhar of Congress was at the second place and got 456512 votes.
MP from Patiala: Dr. Dharam Vira Gandhi of AAP is MP from Patiala. He got total 365671 votes and won by a margin of 20942 votes. Preneet Kaur of Congress was at the second place.
