To become an MLA for five or more times is a big thing. There are very few such people and these can be counted on fingers. Some people who won the assembly elections for more than 5 times are - S. Gurdev Singh Badal (8 times), S. Dilbag Singh (7 times), Dr. Kewal Krishan (7 times), Chaudhary Sunder Singh (7 times). You will be amazed to know a person who has a two digit figure for the number of times he became an MLA. To get the honour of winning the vidhan sabha elections for 10 times is one and only S. Parkash Singh Badal. In 2012 elections, he was elected MLA for the 10th time and represents Lambi constituency in Sri Muktsar Sahib district.

Longest Term as Chief Minister

S. Partap Singh Kairon was chief minister from January 1956 to June 1964. He still holds the record of being chief minister for logest consecutive term of eight and a half year. But the total term of S. Parkash Singh Badal as chief minister is more than 16 years as of April 2015. This way, he has the record of being chief minister for the longest period. Chief Minister to Complete More Than One Term of Vidhan Sabha

There are only few chief ministers of Punjab, who completed their full term of state assembly. S. Partap Singh Kairon completed full term of vidhan sabha from 1957 to 1962. After this, in 1971 Giani Zail Singh completed full term of five years. Other governments could not complete their full term and were suspended in the middle. S. Beant Singh was killed before he could finish his term. With this, S. Parkash Singh Badal became the third person to complete his terms from 1997 to 2002. After that, Captain Amrinder Singh manage to complete five years from 2002 to 2007. But since the independence of India in 1947 till 2007, no chief minister could complete two terms of vidhan sabha. In 2012, S. Parkash Singh Badal became the only cm of Punjab to complete two terms, first from 1997 to 2002 and then again from 2007 to 2012. He again became cm in 2012 and we hope he would be able to complete this third terms as cm.
