Congress Candidates (13 Jan 2017) - Congress party today released fourth list of 10 candidates for Punjab Elections 2017. According to this list, party has changed the candidates from 2 seats - Jalandhar North and Bhadaur. With today's list, Punjab Congress has so far released names of 108 candidates and the party is yet to announce the names of candidates for remaining 9 seats. The assembly elections in Punjab will be held on 4th Feb 2017 and less than three weeks are left in the elections. Congress (or Indian National Congress or INC) is one of the main political parties in Punjab, which is contesting elections under the leadership of Captain Amrinder Singh who is the president of state unit of Congress party (Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee or PPCC) and also the chief minister face of the party. The party has already released its election manifesto for the Punjab assembly elections during a press conference last week. The former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh released the party's manifesto for Punjab elections.
In the candidates list announced so far, the party has given tickets to most of its sitting candidates. For the 9 remaining seats, the debate is still going on as there are more than one strong aspirants for most of these seats and party is cautious while selecting the candidates to avoid any revolt from the leaders who fail to get the party ticket. Almost 10 sitting MLAs of Akali Dal or BJP have joined Congress in the run up to the coming elections who are expecting the tickets from the same constituency and this is being opposed by many Congress leaders especially those whose tickets will be cancelled due to these outsiders.

The election commission of India has announced the schedule of assembly elections in Punjab. The voting for the all 117 assembly seats will be held on 4th Feb and the couting of votes will be done on 11th March. For more details, check the page Punjab Election 2017 Dates.
